All candidates must be Indian citizens and not exceeding 30 years of age. The post-wise essential educational qualifications are:
Sub Inspector (Staff Nurse):
- 12th Class pass from a recognised Board or University/Institute
- Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM):
- Qualified before 2008: 3-year diploma from a Central/State nursing council-recognised institution
- Qualified after 2008 but before 2015-16: 3.5-year diploma from a Central/State nursing council-recognised institution
- Qualified after 2015-16: 3-year diploma with internship from a Central/State nursing council-recognised institution
- Registered with the Central Nursing Council or the State Nursing Council as a General Nurse and Midwife
Sub Inspector (Pioneer):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised University or Institute
Sub Inspector (Communication):

Selection Process:
The SSB SI Recruitment 2026 selection process involves the following stages:
Stage 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST)
Important: No PET will be conducted for Sub Inspector (Staff Nurse) and Sub Inspector (Pioneer). PET is applicable only for Sub Inspector (Communication).

Important Notes on PST:
- Chest measurement applies to male candidates only. Not applicable for females.
- Height and chest are measured to one decimal place. A candidate with even 0.1 cm less than the minimum will be disqualified.
- Weight must be proportionate to height and age as per Annexure-VI. Overweight/underweight candidates are disqualified at the Detailed Medical Examination (DME) stage.
- Candidates seeking height/chest relaxation must submit a community certificate from the concerned District Authority at the time of PST.
- Candidates declared unfit in PST may appeal to the appellate authority on the same day through the Presiding Officer of the PST Board. The decision is final.
Stage 2: Written Examination (Computer-Based Test – CBT)
The CBT is of 3 hours duration, carrying 150 marks:
- Part I (50 Marks): General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, General English/Hindi
- Part-II (100 Marks): Technical Subject (post-specific)
Minimum qualifying marks: 50% for General/EWS/OBC/Ex-SM and 45% for SC/ST. Final merit is based on written exam marks only.
Stage 3: Documentation, Detailed Medical Examination (DME) & Review Medical Examination (RME)
Candidates up to 3 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) will be shortlisted for document verification, followed by a Detailed Medical Examination.
Final Selection
The final merit list is prepared on the basis of written examination marks. In case of a tie:
- Higher marks in Part-II (Technical Subject) → ranked higher
- Senior in age → ranked higher
- Alphabetical order of name in English (dictionary pattern) → A first, B second, etc.
