Vacancy Details – Post-wise & Category-wise Breakup

A total of 76 vacancies are available across three medical/paramedical posts. Here is the complete category-wise breakup:

Eligibility Criteria – Age, Education & Experience

Candidates must be Indian citizens between 18 and 27 years of age. Post-wise essential qualifications are:

Head Constable (Laboratory Assistant):

• 12th Class pass with Biology as a subject from a recognised Board
• 1-year Certificate Course in Laboratory Assistant from a recognised institution
• Minimum 1 year working experience as a Lab Assistant in a Laboratory Diagnostic Centre, hospital, or institution lab recognised by the Central or State Government

Head Constable (Physiotherapy Assistant):

• 12th Class pass from a recognised Board
• 1-year Certificate Course in Physiotherapy from a recognised institute
• Minimum 1 year experience as a Physiotherapy Assistant from a Physiotherapy Centre or a minimum 100-bedded hospital/institution recognised by the Central or State Government

Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic)

• 10th Class pass from a recognised Board
• First Aid certificate course from St. John’s Ambulance Organisation or the Red Cross Society of India
• Minimum 1 year experience as a Nursing Assistant in a minimum 50-bedded Hospital or Institution recognised by the Central or State Government

Important: The crucial date for determining age and all eligibility criteria is the closing date for receipt of applications — 30 days from the date of publication in Employment News. Candidates appearing in a qualifying examination in 2026 are also eligible.

Selection Process:

The selection process for SSB HC & Constable Medical Recruitment 2026 consists of the following stages:

Stage 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

PET standards differ by post — note that Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic) has a longer running distance:

Note: Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET but must appear in all other recruitment stages.

Stage 2: Physical Standard Test (PST) – All Three Posts

All candidates qualifying for the PET must undergo PST. A single PST standard applies to all three posts (HC Lab Assistant, HC Physiotherapy Assistant, and Constable Nursing Assistant cum Medic):

Important PST Notes:

• Chest measurement is for male candidates only. Not applicable for females.
• Height & chest are measured to one decimal place. For example, 164.9 cm fails the 165 cm standard — no exceptions.
• Overweight/underweight candidates will be disqualified at the Detailed Medical Examination (DME) stage, not at PST.
• Candidates claiming height/chest relaxation must submit a community certificate from the District Authority at PST time. Non-production = candidature cancelled.
• Candidates found unfit at PST may appeal on the same day through the PST Board’s Presiding Officer. The appellate decision is final.

Stage 3: Written Examination (Computer-Based Test – CBT)

The written exam pattern is different for each group of posts. Note the important negative marking rule applicable to all:

For HC (Laboratory Assistant) & HC (Physiotherapy Assistant):

• Duration: 3 hours | Total Marks: 150 | 150 MCQ objective-type questions
• Part I (50 Marks): General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, General English/Hindi
• Part-II (100 Marks): Technical Subject

For Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic):

• Duration: 2 hours | Total Marks: 100 | 100 MCQ objective-type questions
• Subjects: General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, General English/Hindi

Marking Scheme (Applicable to All Posts):

• +1 mark for each correct answer
• -0.25 marks (negative marking) for each incorrect answer
• 0 marks for unanswered questions

Final merit for all posts is prepared based on marks obtained in the written examination (Common Entrance Test) only.

Stage 4: Documentation, DME & Review Medical Examination (RME)

Candidates up to 3 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) from the written exam merit will be called for document verification, followed by Detailed Medical Examination.

Final Selection Tie-breaking Rules

• For HC (Lab Assistant) & HC (Physiotherapy Assistant): candidate with higher Part-II (Technical Subject) marks is ranked higher → then senior in age → then alphabetical order of name (English)
• For all three posts: in case of a tie in marks, the older candidate is ranked higher → then alphabetical order of name in English
