Educational Qualification

Graduate Engineer – Grade A

Candidates applying for Graduate Engineer positions must possess a full-time regular B.Tech./B.E./equivalent degree in the prescribed discipline from an AICTE/UGC-recognized institution.

For the Engineering disciplines, candidates belonging to General/EWS/OBC(NCL) categories generally require at least 65% marks, while SC/ST/PwBD candidates require at least 55% marks.

Minimum marks are 60% for General/EWS/OBC(NCL) and 55% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

Law Officer – Grade A

Candidates must have either:

• A Graduate Degree in any discipline plus an LLB degree, or
• A 5-year Integrated LLB degree.

For the prescribed degrees, General/EWS/OBC(NCL) candidates require 60%, while SC/ST/PwBD candidates require 55%. The LLB degree must be recognized by the Bar Council of India.

Assistant Quality Control Officer – Grade A0

Candidates require a Master’s Degree in the prescribed Chemistry disciplines with:

• General/EWS/OBC(NCL): 60%
• SC/ST/PwBD: 55%

Eligible areas include Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Applied Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry.

Diploma Engineer – Grade E0

Candidates require a 3-year Diploma in Engineering in the relevant discipline. The prescribed minimum marks are generally 65% for General/EWS/OBC(NCL) and 55% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

The recruitment includes Electrical, Mechanical and Safety disciplines, with specific qualifying-discipline requirements for the Safety post.

Important Qualification Conditions

IOCL states that qualifying qualifications must be obtained through full-time regular mode. Qualifications acquired through part-time, correspondence, distance or online learning mode are not eligible.

Candidates must also be able to produce their final degree/marksheet by 30 September 2026, subject to the conditions specified in the advertisement.

For candidates whose marks are represented through CGPA or another grading system, the applicable university/institute conversion formula will be used. IOCL specifically states that fractions such as 59.99% will not be rounded up to 60%.

Age Limit

The upper age limit is calculated as of 1 July 2026.

Age relaxation is available to eligible reserved categories and other specified categories according to the advertisement.

Work Experience

Post-qualification work experience is specifically required for the Law Officer and Assistant Quality Control Officer positions.

Law Officer

A minimum of 2 years of post-qualification professional experience as on 30 June 2026 is required. Eligible experience may include legal work in courts/tribunals, law firms, private/public sector organizations or Central/State Government legal functions.

Assistant Quality Control Officer

A minimum of 2 years of cumulative post-qualification experience is required in relevant testing, R&D or quality-control work in petroleum, petrochemical, polymer or fertilizer laboratories, or qualifying experience in an NABL-accredited laboratory under the specified conditions.

Internships, teaching experience, part-time work and short-term trainee projects are not counted as relevant experience where excluded by the advertisement.

Salary

The selected candidates will be placed in the following pay scales:

Selection Process

The selection process consists of:

1. Computer-Based Test (CBT)

CBT Exam Pattern

The CBT contains 100 objective multiple-choice questions:

Each question carries one mark, and 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.

CBT Qualifying Marks

For General/EWS/OBC(NCL) candidates, the requirement is 40% in each section and 45% overall.

For SC/ST candidates, it is 35% in each section and 40% overall.

For PwBD candidates, it is 25% in each section and 30% overall.

Merely qualifying the CBT does not guarantee shortlisting for GD, GT and PI; candidates are shortlisted based on CBT marks in descending order for the respective domain.

Final Merit List

The final composite score is calculated using the following weightage:

The minimum composite score is 45% for General/EWS/OBC(NCL), 40% for SC/ST and 30% for PwBD candidates.

Application Fee

Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwBD categories are exempted from the application fee.

Candidates in other categories have to pay a non-refundable application fee of ₹1,000 + applicable GST, along with applicable transaction charges. Payment can be made through the available online payment modes, including debit card, credit card, internet banking and UPI.
