Educational Qualification
Junior Engineering Assistant-IV (Production)
Candidates must have either:
- 3-year Diploma in Chemical / Petroleum / Petrochemical Engineering/Technology; or
- B.Sc. with Chemistry as a major subject.
The qualification must be from a recognized institution/university. Candidates generally require 60% marks for General/OBC/EWS and 55% for SC candidates against reserved positions.
In addition, candidates must have at least 3 years of relevant post-qualification work experience in continuous process units in industries such as refining, chemical, petrochemical, fertilizer or gas processing.
Junior Engineering Assistant-IV (Mechanical)
Candidates must possess a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with:
- 60% marks for General/OBC/EWS candidates
- 55% marks for SC/PwBD candidates against reserved positions
Candidates also require a minimum of 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in maintenance of rotary and stationary equipment in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, fertilizer, power plant or large industrial establishments.
Junior Engineering Assistant-IV (Electrical)
Candidates must have a 3-year Diploma in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering with the prescribed minimum marks.
A minimum of 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in electrical equipment maintenance is required. Experience may include motors, transformers, generators, HT/LT switchgear, UPS, battery banks, battery chargers and variable-frequency drives in continuous-process industries.
Junior Engineering Assistant-IV (Instrumentation)
Candidates must have a 3-year Diploma in one of the following:
- Instrumentation
- Instrumentation & Electronics
- Instrumentation & Control
- Electronics & Communication
The prescribed minimum marks are 60% for General/OBC/EWS and 55% for SC candidates against reserved positions.
Candidates also require 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in process-control instrumentation maintenance. Knowledge of preventive/breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting, field instruments, transmitters, control valves, DCS/PLCs, P&ID and logic control diagrams is specified.
Important Qualification Conditions
CPCL states that prescribed qualifications must be strictly followed. Candidates possessing higher professional qualifications such as B.E., B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB, MCA or equivalent qualifications are not eligible, and possession of such higher qualifications at joining may result in cancellation of appointment.

CBT Exam Pattern
The CBT will carry 120 marks and consist of:

Candidates generally need to secure at least 40% marks in the CBT to qualify for consideration for SPPT. A 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks applies to SC/ST/PwBD candidates against reserved positions.
The CBT is tentatively scheduled for September/October 2026 in Chennai only.
