For the general SI posts, candidates must possess a recognised degree as on 1 July 2026. A special provision applies to SC/ST candidates as detailed in the notification.
For SI Communication, eligible qualifications include Diploma/B. Tech in prescribed electronics, communication, computer or IT disciplines, certain special diploma courses, or a three-year B.Sc. Electronics. SI PTO requires a Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Automobile Engineering or an approved equivalent qualification.
For Constable Mechanic, candidates need SSC plus the prescribed ITI qualification. Driver candidates need Intermediate or SSC plus specified ITI qualifications and must have held a valid LMV driving licence continuously for at least two years as on 16 September 2026.

Selection Process
The selection process is different for general uniformed posts and technical posts.
For SI Civil/AR/SPF and PC Civil/AR/Fireman/Warder, the process generally includes:
- Preliminary Written Test
- Physical Measurement Test (PMT)
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Final Written Examination
- Certificate Verification/other prescribed formalities
Technical SI posts—SI Communication and SI PTO—do not have a Preliminary Written Test. Candidates proceed through the prescribed physical stages and technical/written examination.
For PC Communication, there is no preliminary examination; selection includes physical stages and a technical written examination.
For Mechanic and Driver Constables, there is no preliminary written test. Candidates have to undergo prescribed PMT/PET followed by the relevant Trade Test or Driving Test and technical written examination.
Scientific Assistant candidates do not undergo PMT/PET. Selection is through a 120-mark objective written examination followed by certificate verification.
