OPSC Assistant Public Prosecutor Recruitment 2026: The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has released Advertisement No. 09 of 2026-27 for the recruitment of Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) in Group-B of Odisha State Prosecution Service under the Home Department. A total of 172 vacancies have been announced.

Vacancy Details

OPSC has announced 172 Assistant Public Prosecutor vacancies.

The number of vacancies may be changed by the Government of Odisha depending on administrative requirements.

Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for the OPSC Assistant Public Prosecutor Recruitment 2026 must have:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognised University.
• At least 2 years of experience as a practising Advocate.

Candidates are required to upload the prescribed experience certificate issued by the concerned District & Sessions Judge along with the applicable Bar Council enrolment certificate.

Age Limit

The candidate must:

• Be at least 21 years old
• Not be above 42 years of age
• The age will be calculated as on 1 January 2026
• The candidate should have been born not earlier than 2 January 1984 and not later than 1 January 2005

Age Relaxation

The upper age limit is relaxable as per the applicable rules:

• SEBC/SC/ST: 5 years
• Women: 5 years
• Ex-Servicemen: 5 years
• PwD with permanent disability of 40% or more: 10 years
• PwD candidates belonging to SEBC/SC/ST categories may receive cumulative relaxation as prescribed in the notification.

Only the most beneficial applicable age relaxation is allowed where a candidate falls under more than one category.

Knowledge of Odia

The candidate must be able to speak, read and write Odia.

The candidate must have either:

• Passed the Middle School Standard Language Test in Odia conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha; or
• Passed the Matriculation/Class 10 examination with Odia as a subject.

Application Fee

Candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories are exempted from paying the examination fee.

Other candidates have to pay the examination fee: ₹700/-

The fee must be paid online while submitting the application form.

An important feature of this recruitment is that the examination fee paid by eligible candidates will be refunded after the Preliminary Examination, provided the candidate actually appears in the Preliminary Examination.

The selection process consists of:

Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination will be conducted as a screening test.

• Total Questions: 100
• Duration: 2 Hours
• Each question carries 1 mark
• Negative marking: 25% of the marks assigned to the question for each wrong answer
• Unattempted questions: 0 marks

The Preliminary Examination marks will not be counted in the final merit list.

Candidates securing the prescribed qualifying marks will be shortlisted for the Main Examination, with the number generally not exceeding approximately 10 times the vacancies in each category.

Main Written Examination

The Main Examination consists of 4 descriptive papers, each carrying 150 marks.

Total Written Marks: 600

Personality Test/Interview

The Personality Test/Interview carries 50 marks.

Therefore, the final merit is prepared based on:

Main Written Examination (600) + Personality Test/Interview (50) = 650 Marks

The Preliminary Examination marks are not added to the final merit score.
